The function of the TIPS Standing Committee on Diversity in the Profession is to promote involvement of attorneys of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, women attorneys, attorneys with disabilities and attorneys who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or trans gender into the membership and leadership of the Section and to promote greater awareness and appreciation of the Section's diversity goals. The Committee will accomplish this goal through publications, CLE programs, networking receptions, assistance to the Section's General Committees and outreach programs on the local and national levels.
Message From The Chair
I am very privileged to take on the role of Chair for TIPS Committee on Diversity & Inclusion and I anticipate another busy year ahead for our committee. After being on this committee for nearly 8 years, I know I’ve got big shoes to fill as I follow in the steps of the immediate Past-Chair, Debbie Yue. I look forward to continuing to build on Debbie’s leadership, and to work with all of you during the years ahead. Our work is vital. Nothing underscores this more than the terrible news erupts daily over the past year of lives being lost all over the country: Florida, Minnesota, Texas and Louisiana. Those events make it clear that there is a need for lawyers in the profession to continue to both learn and teach about the importance of creating an inclusive culture - both for the communities we serve and toward each other while championing the importance of the rule of law.
I look forward to innovating, educating and opening pathways for dialog with all of you during our journey ahead - see you at our next meeting!
I know that sitting in a conference room during a committee meeting may not feel that we are making great strides toward a society that welcomes all people, but when you look over the past year – with our webinars, our outreach efforts and even our section diversity plan, I know we have made a difference. I am also energized by the leadership of TIPS, after speaking with Council members and other TIPS leaders I know the organization values the work that we do and that continued something that makes me extremely proud to be a part of this organization.
