The function of the TIPS Standing Committee on Diversity in the Profession is to promote involvement of attorneys of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, women attorneys, attorneys with disabilities and attorneys who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender into the membership and leadership of the Section and to promote greater awareness and appreciation of the Section's diversity goals. The Committee will accomplish this goal through publications, CLE programs, networking receptions, assistance to the Section's General Committees and outreach programs on the local and national levels.
Message From The Co-Chairs
Dear TIPS family and friends,
We are honored and privileged to lead this instrumental committee during a pivotal moment in our nation’s history. The work associated with developing, promoting, and implementing diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives is not new. Recent events across the country, however, remind us that we must work together as professionals to learn and teach others about the importance of fostering diversity and promoting inclusivity. This work leads to positions of respect and appreciation for the differences among us, whether that be age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, sexual identity, education, national origin, or any other distinguishing characteristic or trait. The work will require us to create spaces that welcome and value everyone’s input on an equal playing field.
Over the next year, the Committee on Diversity & Inclusion will challenge TIPS members to step outside established comfort zones, engage with new and prospective members, meaningfully promote diversity and inclusion programs, and most importantly, actively oppose acts of racism and other insufferable intolerances. We are thrilled to work with an outstanding team of committee members to accomplish the essential work that lies ahead.
Let us all work together to bring about impactful, positive, and long-lasting change.
Jordan Howlette & Marla Dickerson
