Boosting Efficiency at Your Firm

Embrace Feedback

Just because you’re the boss doesn’t mean that you are always right, and your employees should be aware of this. When you make a mistake, you should acknowledge it and praise the employee who pointed it out. Keep in mind that no matter what you do, each one of your workers will have an opinion about it. Because of this, it’s important to embrace feedback. Having a staff that can communicate well will help boost efficiency at your firm. It’s also a good idea to have a monthly meeting where everyone is allowed to share ideas.

Invest in Equipment

Sometimes all you need is to invest in better equipment in order to increase the efficiency at your company. Make sure to use equipment for menial tasks, as this will free up manpower and allow certain employees to dedicate their time to more important tasks. It’s recommended that you only buy equipment that is easy to use, since training workers to use it would be a big waste of time. Know that there are also some incredible apps that can improve productivity. You can find anything from collaboration to time tracking apps.

Do some research on devices that could improve productivity at the workplace. For example, getting a wireless headset for every employee who is on the phone frequently can boost efficiency dramatically. This way, they will be able to move freely around the office and go through important documents as they’re talking to clients.

Reward for Good Results

Although this probably sounds like common sense, many employers don’t give proper recognition to their employees when they do their job well. When you don’t reward employees for their hard work, it can result in a decrease in worker morale. It’s your responsibility to let them know how much their work is appreciated. If you remain silent, they will eventually get the impression that what they do simply isn’t important. Keep in mind that there is a number of ways that you can reward someone for their hard work. Cash bonuses are clearly one of the most common options, but you can also allow them to work from home some days or leave work early. Of course, sometimes all you need to do is acknowledge that someone did a good job in front of the whole staff. After all, recognition from the boss can mean a lot.

Embrace “Single-Tasking”

Despite what most people may think, multitasking does not make you more productive. Unfortunately, there’s a good chance that your employees are not aware of this and that they’re multitasking every day in hopes of getting their work done on time. Nevertheless, as their employer it is your duty to guide them and teach them how to be more productive at work. Educate your employees about the negative effects of multitasking and why they should focus on “single-tasking” instead. You can implement this idea by telling your staff that they’re allowed to work on only one project at a time.

Encourage Face-to-Face Communication

If your employees are in the habit of communicating with each other via email, then you need to start encouraging face-to-face communication around the office. Although it’s fine to send messages using online communication tools for small issues, face-to-face interaction will greatly improve the speed of solving a problem or clarifying important details for a project. Bear in mind that encouraging face-to-face communication will be easier when you start embracing feedback and vice versa.
