Rebecca J. Michael is an attorney-advisor at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. She previously was counsel in the Washington D.C., lawfirm of Arnold & Porter, focusing her practice on electric energyregulatory matters, where she counseled clients on the competitive energy market, ruleenforcement, and compliance issues. Prior to joining Arnold & Porter, Ms.Michael served as Senior Director, Reliability, for the North American ElectricReliability Corporation (NERC). She joined NERC in 2007, just a few weeksbefore the NERC Reliability Standards were mandatory and enforceable. Prior toher position as Senior Director, Reliability, she served in the legaldepartment in various positions, including Associate General Counsel. She alsoserved as the Acting Director of Enforcement from August to December 2011. Priorto joining NERC, Rebecca was an attorney in the energy and utilities section ofLeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae LLP's Washington, D.C. office. She also previouslywas an attorney in the Washington, D.C. offices of Equitable Resources, Inc.and Balch & Bingham. A native of Alabama, Rebecca earned a Bachelor of Artswith Honors in Public Administration from Samford University, in Birmingham,Alabama. She received her law degree from the Vanderbilt University School ofLaw, in Nashville, Tennessee. Ms. Michael is a member of the American BarAssociation, the Energy Bar Association, the Women’s Council on Energy and theEnvironment and the Women’s International Network of Utility Professionals.
