Jesse J. Richardson is a Professor of Law at West Virginia University College of Law, and the Lead Land Use Attorney at the Land Use and Sustainable Development Law Clinic. He was formerly on faculty in Urban Affairs and Planning at Virginia Tech. Prior to his appointment at Virginia Tech he practiced law in his hometown of Winchester, Virginia both with a large firm and, later, as a sole practitioner. He is admitted to practice in both Virginia and West Virginia.Professor Richardson's research and teaching focuses on water law and land use law. He writes and consults on water law, karst issues, groundwater law and land conservation. Professor Richardson has made numerous presentations on legal and economic issues to lay and professional audiences across the country. His many publications include law review articles and papers published in professional proceedings. He received the 1999 American Agricultural Law Association Award of Excellence for Professional Scholarship and the 2004 William E. Wine Award for a history of teaching Excellence from Virginia Tech. In 2009, he received the University Certificate of Excellence in Outreach.
