Kansas Legal Services, Inc. Low Income Taxpayer Cl

I am the host of a tax podcast, Tax Justice Warriors.  Tax Justice Warriors is a podcast that celebrates the work of Low Income Taxpayer Clinics, focuses on tax controversy work and looks at related issues in tax news.  I will rotate through episodes focused on tax controversy, tax education for the public, tax news, and and interview with a tax professional.  It is my goal to have interviews from people who work in the tax controversy world, make tax policy and assist others with their tax problems.

William Schmidt is the Director of the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic at Kansas Legal Services.  I completed my J.D. from Washburn University School of Law (Topeka, KS) in 2009 and my Master of Law in Taxation from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2010.  I volunteered on tax matters for the Kansas City Tax Clinic and Legal Aid of Western Missouri LITCs.  I volunteered for Kansas Legal Services on other matters and was awarded the 2012 Kansas Bar Association Pro Bono Award.  I worked for 6 tax seasons at the H&R Block Tax Institute, their corporate office's research department.  I have also worked in tax training, expatriate (international tax return preparation), and drafting memos regarding the research credit or domestic production activities deduction.  I joined Kansas Legal Services in 2016 to manage the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic and became Clinic Director in 2017.  I write a monthly blog post at the Procedurally Taxing website on designated orders in the United States Tax Court.  I wrote an article on tax controversy for the Kansas Bar Association Journal in March 2018 and co-authored a chapter in the 7th edition of the American Bar Association publication Effectively Representing Your Client Before the IRS (2018).
