Paul Grossman, a partner in the firm's Employment Law Department, represents major private employers in all aspects of employment law, including class action, wage/hour, wrongful discharge, discrimination, sexual harassment, and whistleblower cases. He is the general counsel of the California Employment Law Council, an organization of approximately 50 of California's largest employers, which has as its mission the development of moderate employment law through amicus briefs, education, and legislative activities. Mr. Grossman is the co-author of Lindemann (formerly Schlei) & Grossman, Employment Discrimination Law, the official book of the American Bar Association in its field. That book is going into its fourth edition. It has been cited on multiple occasions by the courts of every circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court and is generally regarded as the principal publication in its field. The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers, in its 2005 edition, wrote: "The leading labour and employment counsel in the world, according to our findings, is Paul Grossman of the Los Angeles offices of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker." In 2006, that organization wrote that in labour and employment law Mr. Grossman is "the foremost practitioner." Lawdragon in 2006 named him one of the "500 leading lawyers in America' (this list includes Supreme Court Justices and other judges, lawyers in over 70 practice areas, and government attorneys). Chambers USA in 2006 rated him as one of the top three employment litigators in California (the two others are his partners, Nancy Abell and Kirby Wilcox). He is a founding member of The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. Mr. Grossman is a longtime member of the Board of Trustees of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association. He is a past president of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. Mr. Grossman received his B.A. degree in 1961 from Amherst College, and his J.D. degree in 1964 from Yale Law School, where he was a member of the board of editors of the Yale Law Journal.
