Patrick Lamb
Valorem Law Group
Chicago, IL

Pat and three friends launched Valorem Law Group on January 2, 2008 with the objective of representing business interests in complex commercial litigation using non-hourly fee structures.  At the time, before the economic downturn, the firm had no company on the trail away from hourly billing.  Now, with 11 lawyers and more than seven years of success using this new model, Valorem hears many firms claim to offer alternative fees. Even cursory review shows that most of these firms base their alternatives on expected hourly fees—the wolf in sheep’s clothing syndrome or as one commentator put, “hourly billing in drag.”  Pat leads Valorem’s efforts to provide fee arrangements where risk is actually shared and where outcomes determine the fees, not the time to secure the outcomes.

Pat is a BigLaw refugee, having spent nearly 20 years at an AmLaw 100 firm, and the next several years at an elite litigation boutique.  He has tried numerous cases around the country. He is in great demand as a speaker, speaking at both public and private events. He is a prolific writer,  including his periodic column for the ABA Journal New Normal section and his blog, In Search of Perfect Client Sercvice, www.patrickjlamb.com. Pat has twice been named a Client Service All-Star by BTI Consulting, including his 2015 recognition as a Client Service MVP. His latest book, Alternative Fee Arrangements for Litigators and their Clients, was published by the ABA in 2014. He can be found on Twitter at @ValoremLamb.
