SUSAN E. MCGAHAN is a General Attorney in the Intellectual Property Law Group of AT&T.  She joined AT&T in July 1999 after practicing for many years in private practice.  Prior to joining AT&T, Susan worked at Coudert Brothers and then at two prominent intellectual property boutique law firms in New York City. 


She has extensive experience in licensing, technology transfer, joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions involving IP assets, patent litigation, assertion and opinion studies, and brand licensing.  Susan currently handles all IP matters for AT&T, including transactional work, assertion, licensing, patent sales, litigation, trademark enforcement, Big Data and FOSS issues.


Susan is an current Council member and former Officer of ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law.  She has been active in this Section for almost two decades as a former Chair of Membership Board, Financial Officer, Secretary, Content Advisory Board member, previous Council member, Division Chair, and Committee Chair.  Susan is past Treasurer of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association and former Board of Director.  She has been a frequent speaker in the areas of intellectual property law.  Susan is Co-Chairs AT&T’s Northeast Pro Bono and AT&T’s Pipeline Diversity efforts.  She is the President of the Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (“VLJ”) and is active in VLJ’s Consumer Law pro bono clinic in Newark, NJ. She also is a former Board Trustee of the American Intellectual Property Law Education Foundation.  Susan as a Girl Scout leader has led community service projects with St. Peter’s Orphanage in Denville and supports From Houses to Homes based in Guatemala, where she annually visits with her two teenage daughters to build in 5 days a home for Mayan workers made out of cement. 


Susan earned a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Bridgeport, and her J.D. from New York Law School.  Susan is admitted to the bars of New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts, the federal courts in New York and the Federal Circuit, and is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
